The Human Rights Documentation Initiative (HRDI) at UT Libraries is committed to the long-term preservation of fragile and vulnerable records of human rights struggles worldwide, the promotion and secure usage of human rights archival materials, and the advancement of human rights research and advocacy around the world. The HRDI Collection contains human rights-related ephemera, harvested internet resources, and audiovisual materials.

Correspondence, research materials, literary manuscripts and notes, family papers, and photographs from the careers and lives of Jefferson R. Spell, Ph.D., professor of Latin American literature at The University of Texas, and his wife, Lota M. Spell, Ph.D., musician and Librarian (1922-27) of the Latin American Collection at The University of Texas.

Papers of psychologist, educator, and community activist Dr. John L. Warfield. In his 26-year career (1973-1999) at The University of Texas at Austin, Warfield served as faculty in the department of Educational Psychology and Director of the African and Afro-American Studies and Research Center.

The John S. and Drucie R. Chase Building was built in 1952 and housed what was then the Colored Teachers State Association of Texas. The John S. and Drucie R. Chase Building Archive includes oral histories and print material that recognizes its transformation and restoration into the building that now houses the University of Texas at Austin’s Center for Community Engagement.

Personal papers of Linda Schele, expert of Maya epigraphy and iconography, and University of Texas graduate and professor. Included are materials from Schele’s graduate program, teaching materials, articles by and about Schele, and collected publications from Schele’s library.

This collection documents María Elena Martínez's involvement in Mexican American politics and culture, bilingual education, Chicano studies, and indigenous organizations. It also documents her interest in the politics of Central American countries and Cuba.
