Scope and Contents Note
The collection documents Guatemala during its civil war and its aftermath. The dates range from 1954 to 2017 with the bulk representing 1978 to 2000. It is mostly arranged in subject order within 18 series and includes subjects such as human rights, violence, politics, and indigenous culture. The collection contains reports, newsletters, pamphlets, correspondence, news clippings, and other ephemera in both Spanish and English. Overall, the collection is in good physical condition. Acronyms of organizations are used in accordance to Goudvis's documentation.

Biographical Sketch
In 1977, after finishing college at UC Berkeley, photographer and documentarian Patricia Goudvis traveled to Guatemala to study Spanish. There she documented the experiences of children and adult civilians in the country's civil war. For the next 30 years, Goudvis lived in Guatemala on-and-off, traveling throughout Central America to record the experiences of Central American peoples. She has filmed and produced several award-winning documentaries:"Under the Gun: Democracy in Guatemala" (1988); "If the Mango Tree Could Speak" (1993); "Dirty Secrets: Jennifer, Everardo and the CIA" (1998); and "Goodbye Baby: Adoptions from Guatemala" (2005).
