Dallas architects Marion Fooshee (1888-1956) and James Cheek (1895-1970) were known for their residential work that reflected extensive study of vernacular architecture in Spain, Mexico and southern California. Foshee and Cheek designed Highland Park Village in 1931, a complex of buildings that became the first self-contained shopping center in the country. Abstract
George Dahl, one of Dallas' most prominent architects, was born in Minneapolis in 1894, of Norwegian immigrants. In 1943, Dahl founded his own company, George Leighton Dahl, Architects and Engineers, Incorporated. Creative works, correspondence, printed material, photographs, financial documentation, works of art on paper, audiocassettes, and a scrapbook, document the life and work of architect George Dahl.
