Scope and Contents Note
This digital collection consists of 458 objects including agendas, books, clippings, magazines, pamphplets, photographs, and reports. The collection is broken down into three series; documents, publications, and photographs.
This collection is entirely digital and is part of the Latin American Digital Initiatives (LADI)project. The LADI repository is a collaborative project that preserves and provides digital access to unique archival documents from a network of Latin American partners with an emphasis on collections documenting human rights issues and underrepresented communities.
Esta colección digital consiste de 458 objetos entre agendas, libros, recortes, revistas, folletos, fotografías y reportajes. La colección se divide en tres serie; documentos, publicaciones y fotografías.
Esta colección es totalmente digital y forma parte del portal de Iniciativas Digitales de América Latina (LADI). LADI es un repositorio y proyecto colaborativo que preserva y proporciona acceso digital a documentos de archivo únicos de un red de socios latinoamericanos con énfasis en colecciones que documentan los derechos humanos y comunidades subrepresentadas.

Historical Note
The Proceso de Comunidades Negras (PCN) is a network of organizations from the Pacific, the Caribbean and central Colombia that was founded in 1993, in charge of strengthening Afro-Colombian cultural identities, access and use of natural resources that are environmentally sustainable, as well as the recognition of ethnic, cultural, territorial, social, economic and political rights in black communities. Among its objectives, there is also the defense of the territories that belong to said communities due to social and historical trajectories, and that remain in dispute or conflict.
PCN's was consolidated at the end of 1993, after a long road and the union of various efforts within the social movement to influence the Constituent Assembly of 1991, with which Colombia acquired the name of a "pluriethnic and multicultural" nation, and Transitory Article AT-55 is included for the regulation of Law 70 of 1993, considered the Black Communities Law, one of the greatest achievements of the black people in Colombian legislative matters.
El Proceso de Comunidades Negras (PCN) es una red de organizaciones del Pacífico, el Caribe y el centro de Colombia que nació en 1993, encargada del fortalecimiento de identidades culturales afrocolombianas, el acceso y uso de recursos naturales que sean ambientalmente sostenibles, así como el reconocimiento de derechos étnicos, culturales, territoriales, sociales, económicos y políticos en las comunidades negras. Dentro de sus objetivos, también se encuentra la defensa de los territorios que pertenecen a dichas comunidades por trayectorias sociales e históricas, y que permanecen en litigio o conflicto
El Proceso se consolida a finales del año 1993, luego de un largo camino y la unión de varios esfuerzos al interior del movimiento social para influir en la Constituyente de 1991, con la cual Colombia adquiere la denominación de nación "pluriétnica y multicultural", y se incluye el Articulo Transitorio AT-55 para la reglamentación de la Ley 70 de 1993, considerada la Ley de Comunidades Negras, uno de los mayores alcances del pueblo negro en materia legislativa colombiana.

Abstract
The collection contains information on the organizational activities of Black communities in Colombia claiming ethnic rights over territories from the late 1980s and the early 1990s until today. The collection contains materials on the following categories: Territory and Environment, Gender and Generation, Human Rights, Ethnic Education, Ethnic Development, Ethnic Legislation. This collection is comprised of photographs, magazines, documents, posters, and newspapers, among others.
Abstract
La colección contiene información sobre las dinámicas organizativas de reivindicación de derechos étnicos territoriales de las comunidades negras en Colombia, desde finales de los 80´s y principios de los 90´s hasta hoy, que responden a las siguientes categorías: Territorio y medio ambiente, Género y generación, Derechos humanos, Étno educación, Étno desarrollo, Legislación Étnica. Toda esta información se encuentra contenida en fotos, revistas, documentos, afiches, periódicos, entre otros.
