BICU-CIDA: Colección Digital del Periódico "La Información"
Scope and Contents Note
La Información was a newspaper that covered the general affairs of the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua and ran from the 14th of September of 1917 until ceasing its operations in 1981.
The content in this newspaper featured a large swath of what are now historical events in Bluefields, Nicaragua, 1917-1981. Its reporting covered mainly local, as well as national and social news, sporting affairs, and advertising from the period. The lived experience in Bluefields during those years can be seen through this publication.
The digitization of the newspaper "La Información" was completed through a project funded by LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections, at the University of Texas at Austin. The project digitized 90% of that collection, with the rest being lost in 1987 due to a Category-5 hurricane that destroyed 95% of the city of Bluefields. Part of the publication was lost and it was impossible to recover.
This collection is entirely digital and is part of the Latin American Digital Initiatives (LADI) project. The LADI repository is a collaborative project that preserves and provides digital access to unique archival documents from a network of Latin American partners with an emphasis on collections documenting human rights issues and underrepresented communities.
La Colección Digital del Periódico "La Información" era un periódico al servicio de los intereses generales de la Costa Atlántica de Nicaragua que fue fundada el 14 de septiembre de 1917 y cerró sus operaciones en el año de 1981.
El contenido de este periódico reúne mucho sobre la historia de acontecimientos de la época acaecidos en Bluefields, Nicaragua desde 1917 hasta 1981 y los temas eran; Noticias nacionales, noticias locales en su mayoría, sociales, deportes, propaganda de los distintos establecimientos de la época entre otros. En este periódico se puede sentir el vivir del pueblo de Bluefields durante esos años.
La digitalización del periódico de "La Información" fue gracias a un proyecto financiado por LLILAS Benson Latin American Studies and Collections at the University of Texas at Austin logrando digitalizar el 90% de dicha colección ya que durante el año de 1987 un huracÁn de categoría 5 destruyo la ciudad de Bluefields en un 95% perdiéndose una parte de las publicaciones de dicho periódico el cual fue imposible recuperarlo.
Esta colección es totalmente digital y forma parte del portal de Iniciativas Digitales de América Latina (LADI). LADI es un repositorio y proyecto colaborativo que preserva y proporciona acceso digital a documentos de archivo únicos de un red de socios latinoamericanos con énfasis en colecciones que documentan los derechos humanos y comunidades subrepresentadas.
