Puro Chingón Collective Records

Puro Chingón Collective is an Austin-based collective of three Latino artists: Claudia Aparicio-Gamundi, James Huizar, and Claudia Zapata. The members met initially through their involvement with Mexic-Arte Museum in Austin, Texas. Puro Chingón Collective seeks to provide exposure for the art that already exists within the Latino community, in formats that are broadly accessible and affordable. Their objective is a "reimagining and referencing of Latino history and culture" through the production of art zines and prints, designer toys, "activation of nontraditional spaces" and additional projects and events.

Puro Chingón Collective coalesced in early 2012 around the creation of the first edition of ChingoZine, a biannual publication featuring the works of emerging Latino artists. In 2013, Puro Chingón Collective further expanded their activities, establishing a monthly interactive film screening series in addition to continuing work on ChingoZine. The film series, Puro Chingón Social Club, presented iconic and cult Latino films with audience participation encouraged through props and costumes related to each film. Another significant accomplishment of Puro Chingón Collective in 2013 was the creation of a 94-foot long mural in downtown Austin, recognizing the history and cultural influence of Latinos in Austin. The collective also assisted in the planning and design of Pachanga Latino Music Fest in 2013 and 2014, developing the brand identity, promotional materials, and visual and interactive elements for the event space.

As of 2014, Puro Chingón Collective continues to produce ChingoZine, along with a line of designer toys, Chingolandia, and other public artworks and merchandise. The Puro Chingón Collective website can be found at http://purochingoncollective.bigcartel.com/
