Mexican American Comptroller Employees Association (MACEA) Records

MACEA was founded in 1983 and was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in 1989. It was the first employee organization in the Comptroller's office and has served as a model for similar groups in other state agencies. Their mission is to promote fellowship and an appreciation of the hispanic culture among state employees; to encourage educational achievement through scholarships, mentoring, and internships; and to provide opportunities for Comptroller employees to serve the community.

MACEA has awarded college scholarships to high school students, as well as grants, gifts, and contributions to worthy causes in the community. Its members have volunteered hundreds of hours of service to the community. MACEA has also coordinated professional internships in the Comptroller's office for college students from different colleges including: St. Edward's University, Southwest Texas State University, The University of Texas at Austin, the University of Texas Law School, and Harvard University.

In addition, MACEA has held several events and fundraisers, with their annual Cinco de Mayo luncheon being the largest. The luncheon is open to Comptroller employees and the public, and features cultural exhibits, musical entertainment, and other activities designed to foster fellowship and cultural awareness among Comptroller employees. MACEA also honors its college scholarship recipients at the Cinco de Mayo luncheon.

MACEA has four officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. Officers are elected for one-year terms by the membership.
