Scope and Contents Note
One compact disc (CD) with digital photographs (JPGs) of the Reject the Text protest regarding a Mexican American studies textbook under consideration by the Texas State Board of Education in 2016. Some images show people giving testimonies to the board and outside holding posters to speak out on the inaccuracy and controversial textbook titled Mexican American Heritage. The following people appear on the photographs: Dr. Angela Valenzuela (UT professor), Dr. Emilio Zamora (UT professor), Valerie A. MartÃnez (who received her PhD from UT), among others.

Historical Note
The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) is one of the oldest, largest, and most influential organizations representing the voice of Latinos in the United States. LULAC was formed in 1929 in Corpus Christi, Texas, by the merger of three Mexican American civic organizations: the Corpus Christi chapter of the Order Sons of America, the Order Knights of America of San Antonio, and the League of Latin American Citizens of South Texas.
Nationwide there are thousands of councils and hundreds of collegiate LULAC chapters. A Collegiate LULAC Council is an affiliated unit or chapter comprised of college/university students who work within a community under a charter authority endorsed by the LULAC National Board of Directors. Student volunteers in collegiate councils work on advocacy efforts geared towards advancing the rights of the Latino community.
The LULAC Council at the University of Texas at Austin has used different names including Longhorn LULAC Council No. 4799 and UT LULAC.
