Historical Note
Dr. Eddie Chambers (b. 1960) is an art historian, artist, curator, and Professor in the Department of Art and Art History and The University of Texas at Austin. Chambers’ scholarship and teaching focuses on African Diaspora art and documenting the practice of Black artists. His publications include World is Africa: Writings on Diaspora Art (2012), Black Artists in British Art: A History Since the 1950s (2014), Roots & Culture: Cultural Politics in the Making of Black Britain (2016), and World is Africa: Writings on Diaspora Art (2021).
Dr. Chambers has furthered his study of visual artist Charles White with support from the John L. Warfield Center for African and African Diaspora Studies. Charles Wilbert White, Jr. (1918-1979), was an American printmaker, painter, and art educator whose work is grounded in depictions of the African American experience.
