175 numbered folios. The text is in French and begins with Rémy's departure from St. Jacques de Louisiana [contemporary St. James Parish, Louisiana] on 23 Nov. 1856, in the company of M. P. [?] Hebert. Manuscript consists of 12 chapters and a conclusion with notable coverage of William Walker’s usurpation of the government in Nicaragua, 1856-1857, battle in Rivas and Walker's time in Granada, and discussion of products and transportation in Nicaragua.

The work is addressed in a letter (by way of preface) addressed to Pierre Soulé (born in France, 1803-1870), who had been US Senator from Louisiana (1849-1853) and US Minister to Spain (1853-1855). The letter is addressed from San José de Costa Rica, 5 June 1857.
