Project# 0094.010 Cultural Resources Survey at Naval Air Station Kingsville, TX, 1994 - 1995

As subconsultants to Turner Collie & Braden Inc., HHM conducted an historic resources survey of NAS Kingsville for the purpose of compliance with Section 110 and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, and to identify any resources eligible for the National Register listing. Project team members documented extant resources constructed between 1942 and 1953, and conducted research on the history, development, and operation of NAS Kingsville. Of the station's 244 properties, 33 World War II and five Korean Conflict-era resources were identified as potentially historic, and evaluated for NRHP eligibility. The project entailed coordination with Prewitt & Associates archeologists to ensure that all cultural resource issues were addressed. P &A conducted a reconnaissance-level survey at NAS Kingsville concurrently with the historic resources survey. Field investigations took place on 107 acres of land most likely to yield archeological sites. Recommendations were presented in a final report that recommended seven buildings as eligible for NRHP listing and none of the three archeological sites as potentially eligible for the NRHP.
