Project# 0092.080 Historic Resources Survey of the Central Business District of Athens, TX, 1992

HHM conducted a comprehensive survey of the central business district of Athens, Texas. The survey identified and documented 91 properties. The project was funded in part by Athens participation in the Texas Historical Commission’s Main Street Program, an effort to revitalize historic properties in downtown areas throughout the state. The survey recommended that the downtown area was not eligible for listing in the NRHP as a historic district but 23 individual properties were classified in the HIGH preservation priority category and could be considered for National Register designation.
