Texas--History

This collection includes materials related to the research, writing and publication of the book Las Tejanas(2003). It contains extensive biographical, topical, and audio-visual materials collected during the research and writing of the book, correspondence and documentation of Acosta and Winegarten's collaboration and writing process, and materials related to the publication of the book.

Correspondence, lecture notes, written works, manuscripts, photographs, and collected materials, including pamphlets, books and newspaper clippings, comprise the collection of Charles Wilson Hackett. From 1918-1951, Hackett was a professor in the University of Texas Department of History, one of the founders of the García Library (now the Benson Latin American Collection) and first director and founding member of the Institute of Latin American Studies.

This collection documents María Elena Martínez's involvement in Mexican American politics and culture, bilingual education, Chicano studies, and indigenous organizations. It also documents her interest in the politics of Central American countries and Cuba.
