American poetry--Mexican American authors

This collection includes materials related to the research, writing and publication of the book Las Tejanas(2003). It contains extensive biographical, topical, and audio-visual materials collected during the research and writing of the book, correspondence and documentation of Acosta and Winegarten's collaboration and writing process, and materials related to the publication of the book.

Correspondence, creative works, printed material, sound recordings, photographic material, and artifacts reflect the life and work of Américo Paredes (1915-1999). Paredes was a folklorist, teacher, novelist, poet, musician, academic administrator, and Mexican-American activist. Born in Brownsville, Texas, he spent his career at the University of Texas at Austin.

Personal archives documenting the career of Irene I. Blea, Ph.D., sociologist, educator, and writer. The papers deal with Dr. Blea's professional struggle in the field of education of Mexican Americans. Also found in this collection are her manuscripts for her sociology books and her poetry.

Personal papers of Teresa Palomo Acosta, Tejana poet, historian, author, and activist. Included are biographical and family materials, written works, correspondence, academic papers and programs, photographs, CDs, audiocassettes, and born digital materials.
