Survivor Testimonies

In 2004, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre began recording testimonies of survivors of the Rwandan Genocide in order to document survivors' personal experiences, feelings, and reactions associated with the Genocide. In these personal oral history testimonies, survivors recount memories of their experiences: their lives and families before the Genocide, discrimination and persecution prior to the Genocide, events leading up to the Genocide, the atrocities of the Genocide, suffering and witnessing human rights abuses, the death of loved ones, surviving the Genocide, and life after the Genocide. Testimonies are given in Kinyarwanda; some have English subtitles, Kinyarwanda transcrips, or French or English translations.
