Scope and Contents

The man in white clothing, in the middle, could be the local headman who usually wears a straw hat decorated with yellow feathers. All these people wear western clothing, which means that they probably inhabit a village in the lower part of the Río Negro valley, close to Venezuelan settlements and the town of Machiques.

The women wear their traditional skirt, but some of the men wear western clothing while others apparently took of their clothing for the picture...In the left, you can see a canoa, or kanawa, which is a hollowed trunk with handles at both ends, used for making beer (usually from corn) to be drunk on important occasions
