Selected Rare Maps in the Benson Latin American Collection
Scope and Contents Note
Pictorial, topographical, and political maps, dating from circa 1500s to 1968, in the Rare Books and Manuscripts collection at the Benson Latin American Collection. The maps are arranged generally according to their geographical location, and are described in the card catalog in the Rare Books and Manuscripts reading room. Some maps have have individual catalog records on the UT Libraries Catalog. Additionally, links have been provided for those maps that have been digitized.
This guide is only a partial listing, many early and rare maps remain uncataloged. When citing items listed below, please cite maps by their individual titles. Please contact Benson Special Collections for more in-depth inquiries into map holdings: bensonspecialcollections@austin.utexas.edu.

Abstract
Collection of early and rare maps from Central and South America, the Caribbean, and the Southwest United States specially cataloged at the Benson Latin American Collection.
Arrangement
The Benson's early and rare maps are shelved numerically by map number. The map number consists of an "M" signifying "map," followed by a number based on the Dewey Decimal classification for geographical location, and a date or approximate date of the map. Map numbers are listed below under the "Box" heading.
