Scope and Contents Note
The Brandywine Art Prints collection represents a cross-section of artistic works by 53 different artists from across the Americas, Caribbean and beyond. This collection includes two series: Brandywine Publications and Art Prints.
Brandywine Publications series contains assorted print material by and about the Brandywine Workshop and Archive.
Art Prints series contains 99 prints listed alphabetically by artist along with descriptive information for each artwork. Descriptive information includes title of the print, year, edition number, style or technique and dimension. AfriCOBRA artists and their work are listed together at the conclusion of this series.
Art Prints: 2020 Addition series contains 7 prints that were acquired in 2020.

Historical Note
The Brandywine Workshop and Archive (Brandywine) was founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1972 by Allan L. Edmunds. Throughout the years, Brandywine has established itself as an institution dedicated to promoting culturally diverse art and cultivating the talent of artists from around the world. Brandywine regularly engages artists, students and community members in innovative programs with the intent to increase access to diverse art and media techniques. In hosting its artist residency program, Brandywine has established a continually growing art archive of contemporary prints created by artists during their Brandywine tenure.
Included in this collection are seven prints by artists from the artist collective AfriCOBRA. AfriCOBRA (African Commune of Bad Relevant Artists) is an active artist collective founded in Chicago, Illinois, in 1968. Established during the Black Arts Movement, AfriCOBRA artists have created works to express a Black aesthetic, promote liberation and celebrate the social, political and cultural contributions of the Black community through visual art.
This collection of Brandywine art prints stands as one of Brandywine’s first satellite archival collections, and was acquired jointly by the Benson Latin American Collection and the John L. Warfield Center for African and African American Studies at The University of Texas at Austin in 2016.

Abstract
Collection of 106 art prints including offset lithographs, silkscreens, woodcuts, collages, screen prints and other techniques by 53 different artists. All prints were created and printed at the Brandywine Workshop and Archive in Philadelphia, PA, in conjunction with its artist residency program.
