Chocolates E. Juncosa Trade Cards
Scope and Contents Note
This collection contains 36 chromo trade cards depicting the Cuban War of Independence (1895-1898), also known as the Cuban Revolution, leading up to the Spanish-American War. The cards were produced by Spanish company Chocolates E. Juncosa, also known as Fábrica de Chocolate de Evaristo Juncosa, Chocolate E. Juncosa, or just Chocolate Juncosa, and are numbered, with advertising on reverse of each card in blue or green ink. An example of the back of a card is below. Toward the end of the set America enters the war. Individuals depicted in the cards include Máximo Gómez, Calixto Garcia, José Quintín Bandera Betancourt, Juan Rius Rivera, and General Valeriano Weyler. The cards also depict important sites such as Camagüey, Las Villas, San José, Havana, and Santiago. Descriptions of each card are transcribed in this inventory, with a visual description of the contents added.
