The collection, including correspondence and invoices acquired from a Bolivian antiquities dealer in 2012, documents the far-flung business arrangements of two generations of the aristocratic line of the Marquesado de Tojo. Arranged chronologicaly.

Historical Note
The seat of the Marquesado de Tojo (Toxo) lay in the Tojo Valley located at the border between modern Bolivia and Argentina. The focus of the business was supplying the silver mines of Potosí and Oruro. However, commerce sponsored by the Marqués and carried out by a number of representatives stretched from Lima to Buenos Aires, with intensive activities in the wine growing areas of southern Peru and the pasturlands of northern Argentina. Commodities traded included brandy, coca, grains, fodder, livestock (cattle, sheep, mules), mercury, silver bars and coin, and yerba mate.
