Scope and Contents Note
The Dr. Gustavo E. and Marcia S. Montes Papers currently include photographs of their time at the University of Texas at Austin, as well as photographs from various destinations where they and their family traveled, lived, and worked. This includes Louisanna, Iillinois, Oaxaca and Mexico City. The majority of photographs are of friends, family and the Montes children. The collection also includes correspondence, collected material, film negatives, slides and artifacts. Gustavo and Marcia's son, Gregory Montes, photocopied the majority of the photographs and annotated the copies to provide more information about the photographs. These copies were matched with their corresponding photographs and photographs were kept in the groups in which they were received.

Biographical Sketch
Dr. Gustavo Montes obtained three degrees, including his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, and Marcia (Schattenstein) Montes obtained her Master's degree in English Education at University of Texas at Austin, in the 1930s and 1940s. Gustavo and Marcia Montes had two children, Barbara and Gregory Montes. The family lived in various places including Austin, Texas, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Champaign, Illinois. Dr. Montes worked with the Inter-American Development Bank in 1974-1984 and was Vice President of the Venezuelan subsidiary of Northern Natural Gas Company of Omaha, Nebraska, in 1968-1969. The Montes lived and worked in Lagos, Nigeria in 1970-1972, and Dr. Montes worked in Algiers, Algeria in the first half of 1974.

The Dr. Gustavo E. and Marcia S. Montes Papers were donated by Gregory E. Montes in memory of his parents, Dr. Gustavo E. and Marcia S. Montes, and in memory of his grandparents: Elceario Martin Montes, Francisca Rey Montes, Aaron David Schattenstein and Leah Walk Schattenstein.
