Scope and Contents Note
The personal papers of activist and lawyer Jennifer Harbury document her efforts to discover the fate of her husband, Mayan Guatemalan guerrilla leader Efraín Bámaca Velásquez, and to pursue justice for his death in the early 1990s. Records include documentation from the Interamerican Court and declassified U.S.government documents, among others.
Additions to the papers are ongoing, and processing and cataloging is incomplete.

Biographical Sketch
Jennifer Harbury (b. 1951) is a U.S. lawyer and human rights activist. In 1992 her Guatemalan husband Efraín Bámaca Velásquez, a Mayan guerrilla leader, was disappeared and later killed in 1993. Harbury engaged the U.S.government and its involvement in the Guatemalan armed struggles to discover the fate of Bámaca, and continues her efforts to pursue justice for his death.
