George Rivera Papers
Scope and Contents Note
The original donation to the George Rivera papers measure 11 linear inches and include materials related to art exhibits curated by and featuring Rivera, as well as written works and collected materials. The bulk of the collection consists of printed exhibition catalogs and fliers, as well as newspaper articles and clippings related to various exhibits. Also included in the collection are several children’s books authored by Rivera, and various publications in which he is mentioned. The collection is organized in three series: Exhibitions, Written Works, and Collected Materials.
2014-2015 Additions: document Dr. Rivera's work in sociology before he transfered from sociology to the Department of Art & Art History at the University of Colorado at Boulder. These donations (recived in 2014 and 2015) also include Artnauts records documenting the artist collective's exhibits as well as art work.
2017 Additions: include art pieces exhibited during the 20th anniversary symposium and exhibits at the RedLine Contemporary Art Space, Denver, Colorado. Two exhibits were shown at the RedLine, one showcased new art work and the other one highlighted art from 1996-2016. The retrospective 20th anniversary ehxibit was also shown at the University of Utah before it was donated to the Benson.

Biographical Note
George Rivera is an artist, professor, art critic and curator. Rivera received his B.A. from the University of Houston in 1966, and his M.A. from the same institution in 1968. He subsequently received his Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York in 1972. Rivera is a Fulbright Scholar and professor of Interdisciplinary Media Art Practices and integrated arts at the University of Colorado Boulder. Rivera's work focuses on Chicano art, and he has curated exhibitions throught the United States as well as internationally.
