National Latino/a Lesbian and Gay Organization (LLEGÓ) Records

Correspondence, printed material, meeting agendas and minutes, reports, financial documentation, photographs, and artifacts detail the functions and activities of the National Latino/a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Organization (LLEGÓ). The records are arranged into eleven series.

Series one, Public Policy and Government Relations (1992-2004), contains records collected by Laura Esquivel, Director of Public Policy and Government Relations. These records include correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings, and printed material. The original order of the records as received by the University of Texas was maintained; the records were divided into three parts, Issues, Other, and Organizations. Other was renamed Federal Marriage Amendment for clarity, as all of the records in this subseries are related to the FMA. The Issues subseries includes material related to a variety of topics, such as Advancing HIV Prevention, Marcha Lesbica, legislation, domestic violence, Building Bridges, hate crimes, and the Minority AIDS/HIV Initiative. The Organizations subseries includes material related to the Human Rights Campaign, National Coalition for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Health, National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, and the National Council of La Raza.

Series two, Policy and Public Affairs (1992-2004), includes the records of Noemí Pérez, Director of Policy and Public Affairs, and of Communications Managers George Maestre and Ronald Hube. This series contains correspondence, reports, manuals, research files, and printed material related to the operations of the Policy and Public Affairs Department. This series also contains two subseries which were left in as close to the original order as possible, entitled Resources and Archived Communication Files.

Series three, Training and Community Education (1992-2004), contains the records of Community Mobilization Manager Nicole Manning. This series contains newsletters, policy reports, and brochures related to community outreach programs and publications.

Series four, Development (1998-2004), includes the records of Directors of Development Jorge-Mario Cabrera, Ados Velez-May, and Pedro Alberta Chavez, as well as the records of Special Events Manager Tanya Headley and Marketing and Publications Manager Ben Sheppard. This series contains correspondence, reports, workplans, and printed material.

Series five, Programs (1988-2004), is the most extensive series of the collection, and includes correspondence, reports, financial documents, program files, grant files, and manuals related to various programs and campaigns. This series is divided into seven sub-series: Avanzando, CIPCEN, Horizontes, Encuentro, National Dinner, TATA, and Small Grants.

Series six, LLEGÓ Publications (1989-2003), is a small series containing newsletters and other material published by LLEGÓ.

Series seven, Outside Publications (1978-2004), contains magazines, brochures, pamphlets, manuals, and other printed material published by outside sources, but collected by LLEGÓ. This series is organized alphabetically by publication title.

Series eight, Archives (1988-2004), contains press clippings, reports, meeting minutes, booklets, correspondence, manuals, and newsletters. These records were received in boxes labeled "Archives" but were not in any order within the boxes. The records have been alphabetized by subject.

Series nine, Audiovisual Materials (1989-2003), is divided into eight sub-series: Photographic Material, Cassette Tapes, Compact Disks, Floppy Disks, Zip Disks, Betacam SP, VHS, and U-Matic. This series is arranged by format, and then alphabetically by title.

Series ten, Ephemera (1987-2004), is divided into three sub-series: Awards and Certificates, LLEGÓ Merchandise, and Other.

Series eleven, Oversize Material (1992-2003), contains large cloth banners, rolled posters, plaques, and glass and acrylic awards.
