Harry Lund Collection

Manuscripts and printed material pertaining to the history and government of Mexico, particularly the states of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. The collection includes decrees, proclamations, broadsides, circulars, correspondence, reports, inventories, minutes of ayuntamientos, marriage records, wills and testaments, and card files. Three-and-a-half linear feet of the collection concern the state of Nuevo León from 1747 to 1931; two-and-a-half feet relate to the state of Tamaulipas from 1768 to 1895; and one-half foot consists of items originating from the central government in Mexico City, materials relating to states other than Nuevo León and Tamaulipas, and documents or fragments thereof whose point of origin or subject is undetermined.

Municipalities prominent in the collection are Linares, Monterrey, Hualahuises, and Hidalgo ‪(‬formerly Santo Domingo de Hoyos‪)‬. Some materials relate to Texas and other states of the southwestern U.S. Marriage records are mostly from Linares, Nuevo León; testamentary materials are largely those of Doña Matiana de León y Vallejo of Santo Domingo de Hoyos from circa 1792. The collection contains business correspondence of the Reynosa office of the Transportes de Oriente bus company from 1960 to 1965. Over five linear feet of card files contain descriptive information about documents in the collection and notes on 25 towns in northern Mexico and Texas. Assorted material includes unattributed and fragmentary items; visual materials; newspaper clippings; notes and correspondence; and a scrapbook of clippings concerning bullfighters in Reynosa.
