Central American Aerial Photographs

The Central American Aerial Photograph collection contains 218 different aerial views (367 total photographs including duplicates) of parts of Guatamala, Honduras, and Panama, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s.

The 66 aerial photographs of Guatemala were produced by the U.S. Air Force between 1954 and 1960. Each photograph is labeled similar to this:"610 AST#4 1370 PMW USAF 3FEB60 Z 1630 15°18'N-87°47'W 30,000FT 154.12MM VM GUATAMALA [sic] CENTRAL AMERICA 55-AM-75 T-11 52-052 KF-6151 T-11 52-089-B ROLL22 END LINE-8B".

142 aerial photographs of Honduras, 1977-1978, are from the Instituto Geográfico Nacional, Ministerio de CC. y OO. PP. Each is labeled similar to this:"1977 1:40,000 152.59 PCN-HOND 2 No. 34". A source for similar photographs describes them as "Sula-Yojoa Air Photographs. Labrotorio de Fotografia Areal, Instituto Geografico Nacional, Tegucigalpa, Honduras."¹ There are two copies of each of these photographs.

The 10 photographs of Panama from the 1970s show areas labeled Bayano and Coclesito. An example of the label on a photograph is "00028 PANAMA 1:10000 BAYANO R16 V1 CCT/72".
