Scope and Contents Note
The Ramsey and Albina Piña Muñiz papers are orghanized in to two series, the Ramsey Muñiz papers and Audiovisual Materials. Items found here include Speeches, by both Albina and Ramsey, letters, photographs, memos, correspondence, campaign literature, and both film and videotapes. Also included is information on the Ramsey Muñiz Legal Defense Fund and the Committee for the Re-Eelection of the President.

Biographical Sketch
Lawyer and gubernatorial candidate for the Texas Raza Unida Party. Ramiro "Ramsey" Muñiz was born on December 13, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Attended Baylor University where he received B.A. and LL.D. degrees. Worked as director of the Urban Community Development Corporation in Waco. Ran for governor of Texas on the Raza Unida Party ticket in 1972 and 1974. Was practicing law in Corpus Christi in 1976 when he was arrested on drug charges. Albina (Abbie) Piña, a native of McAllen, Texas, was married to Ramsey Muñiz from 1966 to 1980. Educator and administrator of bilingual education programs, she earned a B.A. from Texas A & I University and M.Ed. from Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio. She was active in Ramsey Muñiz' campaigns.
