Warren D. Kress Collection

 Collection
Identifier: 2002-19

Scope and Contents Note

The Warren Kress Collection consists of photographic slides, Latin American monies, and a small series of stamps.

764 photographic slides of travel in Mexico--especially northern Mexico and the D.F.--and the Caribbean, including Aruba, Dominican Republic, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. The slides are from the teaching collection of Dr. Warren D. Kress of North Dakota State University. The collection is currently unprocessed; no item description is available.

The series Latin American Coins is an assembled collection of currency from Latin America. While the bulk of collected monies come from Mexico, many other countries are represented, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Venezuela, Peru, Paraguay, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Panama, Jamaica, Bermuda and others. Of note is the collection of coins from varying countries all featuring Queen Elizabeth. A number of coins feature information supplied by Kress, including the grade of the coin, and type of metal it was printed on. In the collection there are 12 sleeves of Mexican coins, and 26 sleeves of coins collected from other parts of Latin America.

The next series, Latin American Paper Money, consists of a variety of paper monies dating from the early to mid-twentieth century. Of interest is a bill that is stamped “Falso,” indicating this is a counterfeit note.

The final series is comprised of one sheet of Latin American stamps, featuring background of artwork provided by Kress.
