Edward B. Dana Photograph and Lantern Slide Collection
Scope and Contents Note
The Photographs series consists of two photograph albums containing photographs taken by Dana during his travels throughout Venezeuela in the late 1920s. The first album contains 200 black-and-white photographs of Dana's travels through western Venezuela including the Andean Region, Capital Region, Central Region and Zulian Region. The second photo album holds 140 black-and-white photographs showing Dana's trip in 1930 to the Goajira Region along the Venezuela/Colombia border. The third item is a series of notecards that describes the two tours documented in the photo albums. All of the materials have been kept in their original order.
The Lantern Slides series contains 125 mounted lantern slides showing many of the same places and scenes as in the photo albums. Caracas, La Guaira, Puerto Cabello, Curaçao, Maracaibo, and Lagunillas are all featured. Of special note are the slides pertaining to oil development in Venezuela, the Guajira Indians and a leper colony that Dana visited on Providence Island in Lake Maracaibo. The slides' titles have been included in the inventory below, using the original titles and descriptions from Dana when available.
