Joanne and David Burke Archive

This collection includes two series: 1) Photographs and Notebooks, and 2) Digital Material

1) Photographs and Notebooks series has material used for film research and production. Included are 226 photographic images, with reproduced prints from the collection of photographer Frank Driggs (1930-2011), along with pages from Scott's Official History of the American Negro in the World War (Chicago, Homewood Press, 1919). The series also contains four spiral notebooks with transcripts from Paris Noir interviews. A full inventory of photographs can be found here.

2) Digital Material series includes both born digital and previously digitized interviews, photographs, and scripts used in making Fighting for Respect and Paris Noir. This series is divided into three subseries: 1) Fighting for Respect Digital Files, 2) Paris Noir Digital Files, and Photograph Scans.

Fighting for Respect Digital Files subseries contains 122 digital files. It is organized into three additional sub-series: 1) Scholar Interviews, 2) National Archives Footage, and 3) WWI Scans Selection. Dates for born digital files determined by when they were last modified and dates for digitized files were determined by their digitization date.

Paris Noir Digital Files subseries has 65 digital files. It is organized into three additional sub-series: 1) Burke’s Tape Archive, 2) Paris Noir Scholar Transcripts, and 3) Paris Noir Scripts. Dates for born digital files determined by when they last were modified and dates for digitized files were determined by their digitization date.

Photograph Scans subseries contains 105 digital files. It is organized into two sub-series: 1) Frank Driggs Photographs and 2) Photographs from Scott's Official History of the American Negro in the World War. Dates for files determined by when the images were digitized.
