Latin American Zines & Graphic Fiction Collection
Scope and Contents Note
The Latin American Zines & Graphic Fiction Collection consists of artists' materials from Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Some publications document specifically Latin American experiences and culture, while others cover more universal topics. Items include mainstream and self-published comics and fanzines. Most of the material is in Spanish although English and Portuguese are also represented. Periodic additions to the collection are ongoing.
The series in the collection are arranged alphabetically by country and the material itself is alphabetized by title within each series. Note that holdings from countries will span multiple boxes due to the ongoing nature of when materials are acquired and described. Publishers and creators are listed when identifiable. Date of publication is also listed for each title when identifiable.

Historical Note
Latin American comics, zines, and graphic novels are a unique medium, addressing controversial political, cultural, and social issues. Specifically, fanzines, or "zines," refers to a small, informal, non-professionally produced publication with limited circulation. The purpose behind the zine stresses free expression over profit, graphically expressing their authors' social, cultural, and political interests and concerns.
