Segment #2 CHUCHO VALDES

For Cuban pianist, Chucho Valdes, the possibility of a change of relations between the U.S. and Cuba would be a good thing. Valdes is considered to be one of the greatest living pianists and regularly performs around the world....just not here. The Bush administration has banned Valdes and virtually all other Cuban musicians from performing in the U.S. Latino USA contributor Reese Erlich caught up with Chucho at the Barcelona Jazz Festival. Segment #3 BRACEROS

It was 1942.... American men were fighting and U.S. farmers needed strong arms... 'braceros, to help with the harvest. So the governments of the United States and Mexico joined up to create the Bracero Program and over a quarter million Mexicans came here to work. Ten percent of every paycheck was withheld and sent to Mexico to be given to the workers when they returned, but they never got their money. Now, after a class action lawsuit these workers, currently in their 80's and 90's will finally be able to collect some of these back wages. From Chicago, Yolanda Perdomo reports. (0:00)
