Segment #1 COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM

Almost immediately after the bipartisan compromise on comprehensive immigration reform was announced, support for it seemed to fall apart. In a nutshell, here are the provisions: a $5000 fine, the head of the household must return the country of origin to apply for citizenship--the so-called 'touchback,''immigrants must show proof of health insurance, a point system of would value education and job skills over family ties, and a temporary worker program Would allow individuals to work for two years at a time'for a total of six years'without offering citizenship. Despite the early momentum, the bill is being bombarded by amendments, from one limiting the number of temporary guest workers, to an amendment sponsored by senators Hilary Clinton, Chuck Hagel and Robert Menendez, to put back an emphasis on family unification. Segment #3 Commentary: IMMIGRATION

Call it the American Paradox: a nation of immigrants afraid of too much immigration. A nation that drew the line in the sandy soil of the southwest and in the snows of the northern tier and said: to cross this line, you have to play by our rules. For commentator D-A King, the senate has failed in this compromise...because it's failed to do what's in everyone's best interest: to protect the nation's borders. (2:16)
