Segment #1 'GUATEMALA: FOR A WOMAN'S RIGHT TO LIVE'

On the 29th of December, 1996, peace accords were signed in the Central American country of Guatemala...ending a bloody 36-year long civil war. Yet, ten years later, violence in this country continues...in the last six years alone, more than two thousand Guatemalan women have been murdered, with very few convictions for the killers. Indeed, Guatemala is developing a reputation as a place where killers can get away with murder, especially of women. Producer Maria Martin of Graciasvida Productions has this special report from Guatemala. (15:45)

When the New U.S. Congress convenes, the House will be considering a resolution by Republican Dan Burton and Democrat Hilda Solis condemning the murders of women and girls in Guatemala.
