Segment #2: SCHOOL OF THE AMERICAS

The film titled, 'The Motorcycle Diaries' told the story of two young Argentines on a road trip across Latin America-from Buenos Aires to the tip of Venezuela. The movie covered the political coming-of-age to Ernesto 'Che' Guevara'a young doctor who's spurred by the lush beauty and poverty all around him to seek a revolution. José Rivera wrote 'The Motorcycle Diaries' screenplay, earning an academy award nomination. But in spite of his success with that film, he still considers himself first and foremost a playwright. In his new drama, 'School of the Americas,' Rivera returns to the story of Che Guevara. Wounded and imprisoned in a small school in Bolivia, Che is visited by an idealistic local teacher. The play opened recently at New York City's Public Theater and is co-produced by the Labyrinth Theater Company. Reporter Pamela Renner sat down with the playwright, cast, and director to learn more about the twilight days of Che Guevara. (6:15)
