Segment #1: HOME DEPOT LABORERS

All across the country, in our biggest cities, in quiet suburban towns, and in the rural heartland of America-immigrants, most of them from Mexico or Central America, congregate on street corners and vacant lots that have become unofficial places to pick up day laborers. Many cannot speak English and most are undocumented. Their ubiquitous presence often creates friction, as these newcomers strive to carve out a place for themselves and make a living in a foreign land. In recent years they have been drawn, like a magnet, to building supply and home improvement super stores, like Home Depot. It's a perfect place to look for work amongst the constant comings and goings of contractors and carpenters who may need an extra pair of hands. Trouble is, it's also a violation of Home Depot's corporate policy, and a perfect way to get arrested for trespassing. Still, some risk it. Latino USA's Adam Saytanides has our report. (7:55)

Segment #3: BRAZIL'S ARMS REFERENDUM

Nearly 40,000 Brazilians were killed by guns in 2003, making Brazil the world leader in firearm deaths. On Oct. 23, Brazil held a nationwide referendum on whether to completely ban the sale of guns. Despite the grisly toll of firearm deaths, an overwhelming majority of Brazilians ' 65% - voted against the ban. Recently, radio producer Shawn Blore set out to uncover why the issue failed so decisively in a society that appears wracked with gun violence. (3:59)

Segment #4: RITA VIDAURRI

From the 1930's through the 5O's, the star power of Rita Vidaurri rivaled that of Lydia Mendoza and other Spanish language singers of that era. Amazingly, today at age 81, 'La Calandria,' is being rediscovered by her old legion of fans and attracting a whole new generation. From Texas Public Radio in San Antonio, Yvette Benavides reports.
