Segment #1: REPORT: 'BETWEEN TWO WORLDS, YOUNG LATINAS AND SUICIDE'

When young Central American and Mexican Latina immigrants become teenagers in the United States, they often find themselves torn between their parents' expectations, and ever-heightening demands of American teenage life. More than any other youth group, young Latinas break down under these and other pressures. In a startling statistic, the Center for Disease Control reports that almost a quarter of all Latina youth have attempted suicide. In this special report by GraciasVida Productions, part of the series, 'Despues De Las Guerras: Central America After the Wars,' two young Latinas, Bernice Torres and Claudia Garcia, share their stories of turmoil, despair and seeking help. Both live in immigrant Communities on Chicago's west side. Both girls have attempted suicide multiple times. And they agreed to share their personal stories because they want to send a message of hope to other youth.
