Mexico, México to many Americans, its simply our nearest neighbor to the south, a land of 120 million people, home to the Aztec and Mayan civilizations, beach resorts, corona beer, and mariachi music. But to 22 million other Americans, those who trace their ancestry and heritage to places like Zacatecas, Texcoco, San Luis Potosi, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Sonora, Oaxaca, Chiapas, Puebla, el DF, and even old Tejano families from the Lower Rio Grande Valley, to those Americans of Mexican heritage this place, Mexico, means much, much more. On this Hispanic Heritage Month edition of our program we present to you a special documentary from our archives. Before Vicente Fox ushered in a new political chapter in the history of Mexico, before Mexico attempted to embrace its emigrants with Fox's Paisano Initiative, Latino USA's executive producer Maria Martin took a trip with other Mexican Americans, to explore the complex relationship that Mexican and Mexican Americans have with each other and the land known as Mexico. It's what some people call the cosmic connection.
