It's been said that computers have been the great equalizer for employees. It doesn't matter what your background is, or what you look, or sound, like, what matters is that you can handle cyber space and business. So with the dot com boom many Latinos found new kinds of jobs in a modern industry open to new ideas. But the dot com bust has meant many high tech Latinos are out of jobs. As Jason Lopez reports now from Oakland, California these modern Latinos are now relying on old style Latino social connections to try to stay alive in the market place.

In Ecuador there is a law suite going on, not just any lawsuit, a David and Goliath lawsuit. Native Ecuadorians, indigenous peoples, are suing one the world's largest oil companies, Texaco Oil. The Ecuadorians have brought their lawsuit into U.S. courts and the accusations are heavy. The Indians claim Texaco has been knowingly polluting the land and water in the amazon provinces of their country. David and Goliath indeed ' the case has been in court for 9 years. Bur now with the recent corporate merger of Texaco and Chevron the Ecuadorians have gotten some new allies and they all showed up at a May 15 Chevron-Texaco annual shareholders meeting. Independent radio producer Reese Erlich has our story.

American's of all stripes remember their fathers, their papas, living and deceased on June 16. For writer Carlos Sanchez of Waco the hot Texas weather in June especially reminds him of his dad on Father's Day.

Now for storyteller Antonio Sacre, who's half Cuban on his father's side. His papi never approved of his choice of profession -- being a writer. So Antonio Sacre wrote a play about it.
