Before leaving yet on another trip to Rome Cardinal Bernard Law, the head of Boston's Catholic archdioceses, recently gave a deposition in a court case over sex scandals involving priests. For many of New England Catholic's Cardinal Law has lost credibility because he failed to prevent priests from sexually abusing children. And the majority of Catholics there want him to resign. But for the past several weeks Latino Catholics have become more vocal about their feelings on Cardinal Law and their Church. From Boston WBUR's Monica Brady-Myerov reports.

Historically Latinos have overwhelmingly identified themselves as Catholic, but over the last few decades the percentage of Latino Catholics has begin to decline. New findings from a study were released recently at a national conference of religious leaders. The study shows a growing Protestant influence among the nation's Latinos. Reporter Don Rush attended the religious conference in Washington, DC and filed this report.

This Mother's Day the family of a woman, who lived to be a 103, reflects on her gifts of altruism, faith, and devotion. Benigna Chavez was born in 1898 and lived her life as a mother of three, and the grand mother and great-grand mother to dozens more who grow up to be successful business men and women , artists, photographers, and parents themselves. From the village of Chimayo in northern New Mexico correspondent Debra Martinez reports now on the legend of Benigna Chavez.

As Mexican Americans find themselves moving across the United States they carry with them one of the sounds of their heritage, the mariachi. Hundreds of mariachi programs have sprouted up in public schools throughout the country, and in such unlikely places such as Wenatchee, Washington, Lansing Michigan, Greenville, North Carolina and Stanford university. But the heart and soul of mariachi remains in the Southwest where one high school mariachi in a small town on the U.S.-Mexico border reigns supreme. NPR's John Burnett reports from Roma, Texas.
