Notebooks

The Notebooks subseries is divided into two sections: Teaching/Organizational Notebooks, and Writing notebooks. Though nearly all Sagel's notebooks contain drafts of his written works, the Teaching/Organizational Notebooks are dominated by entries that pertain to teaching, workshops or other non-authorial activities. The content of each notebook under Writing Notebooks mostly relates to his written works. For each notebook, if a title was written on the front or back cover (or both), that title is in quotation marks at the beginning of the entry for that notebook. If there were titles on the front and back cover, the two titles are both in quotation marks, and listed at the beginning of the entry. Each notebook entry includes detailed information about the contents of the notebook; poems are so denoted, and essay and short story drafts are indicated by the title under which they were eventually published (e.g. “Alfonso Story a Tale of Two”) or by subject matter if they were not published.
