A Bari/Motilones Bravos communual hut. The bari were only contacted in 1960. Until then they refused all contact, and their attacks of oil camps and personnel in the jungle south of Machiques were greatly feared. This Bari hut must have been uninhabited when the picture was taken. Their inhabitants much have run away when visitors approached, or it was temporarily uninhabited. (Each Bari communual group owns several big huts scattered throughout their respective territory). It was probably photographed south of Machiques, near the Yasa river.
