"The letters are clearly confidential and frequently cryptic, and demonstrate the manner in which high government officials received intelligence. The reports are from Cirilio Gómez y Anaya (1781-1861), native of Lagos, Jalisco, 1821-member of the Trigarantine army and deputy to congress, military commandant of Durango (1829-1831) and Jalisco (1831), minister of war (1832-1833)[26 letters]; and from Joaquín Parres (1783-1834), native of Silao, Guanajuato, division general, minister of war (1833)[12 letters], both leading conservatives."
