The collection includes architectural drawings, photographs, specifications, brochures, and clippings that document the architectural practice of Jim Scoggins. The Scoggins collection consists of 1 linear foot of manuscript material (2.5 manuscript boxes and one flat box), 296 photographic prints, 216 negatives, 142 transparencies, 9 line negatives, 70 photocopies, 22 Polaroids, 2 postcards, and 1,609 sheets of drawings. The collection is divided into 5 series: Personal Papers, Professional Papers, Photographs, Project Records, and Drawings.

The bulk of the Jim Scoggins collection is photographs and drawings of his architectural projects. The collection contains 275 photographic prints, 225 negatives, 142 transparencies, 70 photocopies, and 2 postcards. Drawings document 40 projects Scoggins was affiliated with, including many under his two firm names, Grogan and Scoggins and Jim Scoggins, Architect. The bulk of the works are Texas projects with the exception of drawings of Bellflower Medical Center in California, where Scoggins worked with HMC Architects, Inc. as a consultant.

Biographical Sketch of Jim Scoggins

Jimmy James Harvey Scoggins received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas in 1957. Following graduation, Scoggins worked in Odessa, Texas and passed the architectural exam for the state in 1960. Scoggins moved to Irving, Texas in 1960. From 1965 to 1985, he worked under the firm name Grogan and Scoggins, Architects. From 1985 through 1993, he practiced as Jim Scoggins, Architect. While the bulk of his work is in North Texas, Scoggins also worked in California. Throughout his career, Jim Scoggins has been a member of many professional associations including the American Institute of Architects, Texas Society of Architects, Dallas Chapter of the AIA, California Council AIA, and Inland California Chapter of the AIA. In 1993, Scoggins retired and he continues to work as an architectural consultant.

Jim Scoggins served in the United States Air Force prior to attending the University of Texas. He is certified as an interpreter for the deaf and has served on the Texas State Commission for the Deaf. He holds a real estate license and a private pilot's license. Scoggins served on the Dallas County Community College Board of Trustees for seven years, during which time 5 colleges were built. He was also on the Dallas Baptist College Board of Trustees for three years. Jim Scoggins was married with two children.

Jim Scoggins died February 15, 2013.

Jimmy James Harvey Scoggins was a Texas architect who practiced in the North Texas region as well as California. The collection includes architectural drawings, photographs, specifications, brochures, and clippings that document the architectural practice of Jim Scoggins.
