Subseries B3: Central European Architecture (CEA), 1908-2016, undated

The Central European Architecture (CEA) subseries includes analog and born-digital records produced and collected for the research project titled A Tense Alliance: Architecture in the Habsburg Lands, 1893-1928. This collaborative project was conceived and led by Alofsin through funding by the Viennese Internationale Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften (IFK), the Getty Research Institute, and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA). Work was conducted by Alofsin and other members of the team from 1992-1996. Research for A Tense Alliance also led to Alofsin’s book, When Buildings Speak: Architecture as Language in the Habsburg Empire and Its Aftermath, 1867-1933 (WBS), published in 2006 by University of Chicago Press.

Materials in this subseries include field notes by the researchers, research notes, correspondence, accumulated reference materials, and photographic material created for the A Tense Alliance project, and annotated manuscripts for WBS. The materials have been divided into two sub-subseries, B3a: A Tense Alliance Research and B3b: When Buildings Speak (WBS) materials.
