Series F: Art and Artifacts

This series includes drawings and paintings reflecting Coote's interest in decorative arts and travel abroad.

"I have made drawings and paintings since I was 10 years old and in 1941 to the present 2007, some 66 years. Unlike those done in the course of my architectural practice from 1965 to 1985, these were not done professionally, but persistently over the years. They have been a way of seeing and expressing ideas and emotions. They have been inspired largely by my travels abroad: Japan in 1954 and again in 1978 which was the most important influence in shaping my own aesthetic, also Italy first as a student in 1961 and subsequently much of Western Europe, Turkey in 1962, Tunisia 1990, Morocco 1992, Egypt 2000, and England where where I lived part of each year from 1985 to 2001."
