Series C: Neuhaus reference material, 1847-1891

The Neuhaus reference material was purchased by the Winedale Institute in Historic Preservation. The correspondence (in German script), photographic material and scrapbook document Ludwig Eduard (L.E.) Neuhaus and his immigration from Ellerburg, Germany, to Lavaca County, Texas, in 1846, and his settlement of Hackberry, Texas. The Neuhaus Complex was surveyed by the Winedale Institute in 1992, and this reference material aided their work. The complex, constructed between 1847 and 1881, consists of three primary structures. A homestead and store accommodated his family residence and mercantile business. The Neuhaus-King House was built in 1881 for the family of his eldest son.
