Series B1: Architectural Research and Writing, 1887-1993, undated

The Architectural Research and Writing series contains Blake Alexander's collected research on his various architectural interests as well as several of his papers with early revisions and supporting notes with particular note to The History of the Campus and Buildings of the University of Texas, Texas Public Buildings of the 19th Century, and notes on architect Paul Philippe Cret. The bulk of the material consists of printed material that Alexander collected (6 boxes), followed by photographs (3 boxes). Of particular interest in the printed materials is a historically significant overview book of Country Club Plaza in Kansas City (1926), which was the first business and shopping plaza designed to accommodate the automobile. The vast majority of the photographs are black and white snapshots of a variety of architectural structures including the Old Main Building on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. Also of interest are the historical city plans, building plans and drawings contained in the flat files (including Rome, Paris, London and Florence).
