Series A: Faculty and Professional Records

The Faculty and Professional Records series includes correspondence, course materials, exhibition materials, conference records, reference files, and various administrative records, including the contents of George Andrews's briefcase. A large part of the series consists of correspondence, which is arranged chronologically. Frequent correspondents include fellow Mayanists Antonio Benavides Castillo, Nicholas Dunning, Hasso Hohmann, Karl Herbert Mayer, Hanns J. Prem, and David Webster. Where possible in the reference subseries, original order was maintained to demonstrate how George Andrews gathered research and reference material. In both the correspondence and reference subseries, a substantial portion of the material consists of articles and other writings Andrews received from other Maya scholars, sometimes sent to him for his personal reference but often to solicit his feedback. This series documents the Andrews' work of engaging with the Mayanist community and doing outreach to the general community on their work, as well as their personal efforts to document their travels.
