Project# 0515 Historic Resources Survey and Condition Assessments at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, Las Vegas, NV, 2008

HHM prepared a historic survey report for Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs for the City of Las Vegas to document existing conditions at the property immediately following the transfer of the property from the State of Nevada on July 12, 2007. Floyd Lamb Park currently operates as a public park used for outdoor recreation, located roughly 15 miles north-northwest from downtown Las Vegas. During its historic period of significance (1941 until 1959), the property was known as Tule Springs Ranch and operated as a working cattle ranch and alfalfa farm that also accommodated paying guests, many of whom travelled to Nevada to take advantage of the state’s lenient divorce laws. Preparation of the historic survey report entailed field investigations and archival research, conducted in Las Vegas from June through September 2008. Field investigations, conducted by professional staff meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards, documented and evaluated the 36 extant historic resources and cultural landscape features within the National Register boundaries of the historic core at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs. Documentation included mapping, photography, identification of significant extant features, a thorough condition and code-compliance assessment, and a visual hazardous materials evaluation. To supplement and inform field investigations, professional staff performed archival research regarding the historical background and context of the development of Tule Springs Ranch. After review of the draft historic survey report, the Client noted, “Overall the report is amazing. . . . Thank you for such a fantastic job!” Under a separate contract with the City of Las Vegas, HHM teamed with Candace Volz of Volz & Associates to conduct archival and field investigations to provide recommendations to the City of Las Vegas (City) for the interior rehabilitation of the Foreman’s House, Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs, Las Vegas, Nevada. HHM served as a sub-consultant for the City – the City served as the Architect of Record for the project. The City of Las Vegas is completing a rehabilitation of the interior to convert the function of the building to a Visitor’s Center for the park. The investigations conducted by HHM and its consultant informed recommendations made to the City for period-appropriate finishes and furnishings for the Visitor’s Center and included recommendations for restored or in-kind replacement of the finishes and furnishings used in the foreman’s house during the period of significance (1941-1959).
